BI Viewer

Privacy policy

Effective October 24, 2026. Applies to the BI Viewer app for Android, Fire TV and Echo Show (package com.tclark.bi_viewer).

The short version: BI Viewer connects only to the Blue Iris server you point it at. It doesn't collect, sell or share any of your data, and the developer never receives your video, server address or login.

What the app stores, and where

  • Your server details and login (server addresses, username and, if you choose "Stay signed in", your password) are stored only on your device, in Android's encrypted storage. They're sent only to your own Blue Iris server, to sign in.
  • Your settings (quality, start screen and similar choices) are stored only on your device.
  • Trusted certificates. If you choose to trust your server's own HTTPS certificate, its fingerprint is stored on your device so the app can warn you if it ever changes.

What the app does not do

  • No accounts, sign-ups or developer servers. Video and alerts travel directly between your device and your Blue Iris server.
  • No analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting services.
  • No location data, contacts or other personal information is collected.
  • Nothing is sold or shared with third parties.

Permissions

  • Internet and network state: to reach your Blue Iris server and to tell whether you're on Wi-Fi or mobile data, so the app can pick your home or away address.
  • Camera: only to scan an invite QR code, or the code a TV shows when you set it up. Camera images are processed on your device and are not saved or sent anywhere. The camera is never used without you opening the scanner.

Sharing access

When you use Share access, the app creates a QR code or invite message containing your server address and username, and your password if you leave "Include password" on. That invite goes only where you send it. Anyone who has it can sign in to your server, so share it only with people you trust.

Setting up a TV from your phone sends your login from your phone to the TV over your own home network, encrypted. It doesn't pass through the internet or any outside server.

Reporting a problem

"Report a problem" opens an email in your own email app, addressed to the developer, with the app version, device model, Android and Blue Iris versions and a recent app log attached. Server addresses, usernames, passwords, IP addresses and session IDs are removed from the log first, and the app shows you what's included. Nothing is sent unless you send that email yourself. Emails you send are used only to answer you and fix the app.

Children

BI Viewer is a tool for people who run their own Blue Iris camera server. It isn't directed at children and doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
